Commercial Advertising – It’s Krrunch Time

Recently, I stumbled upon some commercials produced locally.

Nuffnang together with Pringles Potato Chips had a Contest to assist Pringles in advertising their potato chips. Btw, Nicole has her views on her favourite food as well…u can check out her video here!

pringles

I took a look at one of the entries for the contest, and I was impressed by their creativity!

Bearing in mind that we are nowhere near Hollywood standards, but considering the fact that the producers of this commercial look like students – I think they guys did a very good job.

The results are not out yet, but I think this commercial gets my vote!

Pram Jogger: Baby falls onto train tracks

I saw a really scary video today.

CNN reported this incident in Melbourne Australia, where a lady had her baby fall onto the train tracks, right in front of an approaching train!

Well, it seems that the brakes on the pram were not engaged, and this therefore created the problem of the stroller rolling off the platform.

Thankfully, the baby survived!

I thought this video was really alarming, considering the fact that Singapore has recently seen an increase in the number of people falling or “jumping” onto the tracks.

After watching the video, I don’t really know what I would have done I was there, or worse….If I was the parent.

Who would have thought that….just one moment of adjusting your pants, would have such consequences! This is just one those “freak” accidents where a moment of carelessness will change your life forever.

I guess its true – “Details do determine your destiny!”

Christian Retreat in Malaysia

City Harvest’s ETzone gathered for it’s Inaugural Adult Christian Retreat at the Mercure Hotel in JB last week.

IMG_2531

We left after attending the Saturday 330pm service at City Harvest Church, and from there, we made our way across the causeway via the 2nd link.

IMG_2735

As many of us are 1st generation Christians, this was going to be our 1st Christian Retreat! We were excited and yet ready to meet God and make many new friends.

To facilitate the event, we played a lot of team building games, so that we can get to know each other better.

IMG_3383

IMG_3464

IMG_3422

Team building games would not be complete if we did not go outdoors…and we had Tele-matches and Water Bombs in the outdoor field as well.

And what Christian Retreat would be complete, unless there is the preaching of God’s word and ministry time as well. God showed up for us, and this made the Christian Retreat very memorable.

 IMG_3771

We had a tremendous time, and all of us enjoyed the retreat.

We made many new friends and many of us met God!

As we packed our bags, many of us were already talking about the next retreat in 2010.

Check out the photo montage I made of the event as well! Hope you guys like it! (Do wait a while for the video to load, as Vimeo is getting slow…)

Parenting Advice:

What made the trip enjoyable for the parents was that we arranged for help to look after the kids. Without them around, we would not have the liberty to participate in the events. A big thumbs up to the Children’s Church helpers!

Nadine is starting to walk!

After having 3 Children – I can tell u that everyone of them is different!

Each one of them has their own special qualities and attributes.

Nadine is of no exception!

IMG_2021

She seems to be the most timid of the 3 – and would be the most wary and afraid whenever we put her into a new environment.

Whenever we carry her, she will always be clinging on to our shirts for dear life – as she is afraid of heights!

Recently, she has also started taking her first few steps, and we are looking forward to another little one running around the house very soon…

In comparison…Nathan walked the fastest! Boys seem to have no problem when it comes to physical coordination…but till today, he lags behind Nicole in terms of speech development.

I think Nadine will speak as fast as Nicole, as she seems more inclined in this area as well!

BTW, If u are asking if No 4 is coming soon…the answer is NOT at the moment! The 3 of them are a real handful, and we need to give them time to grow up!

But the kids are always fun to have around – and Daddy and Mummy really miss them, when we don’t get to see them as often as we like!

Kid’s Praise

One of the 1st seeds planted into my life was sown by a Blue Bible called Psalty!

kids praise

When I was in Upper Primary, my brother brought home one of these records and started playing it on the stereo.

I was intrigued!

The “catchy” storylines and light warm hearted music really drew me towards the gospel, and this “brush” with the gospel made a lasting impression in my life.

As a father, I have brought the same series home for the children, and they love the music as well!

Although they don’t make any new additions to the Kids Praise series - you can still buy the CDs off Amazon, and I am pretty sure that you will love the “catchy” tunes too!

Currently, the kids are listening to the City Harvest church album and they seem to be thoroughly enjoying the songs.

Check out the kids Praising and Worshipping God in these short Videos:

The kids were a real riot, as they lifted their hands and kicked their legs when they worshipped God! :)

City Harvest Celebrates 20 years!

sundaytimes

The 20th Anniversary Services for City Harvest Church was a real blast!

As anticipated, the queues started at 430am, and by the time the doors were opened at 8am, there was a long queue “snaking” around the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

It was a time of celebration, as all of us gathered with our families to remember God’s goodness over our lives.

With my dad next to me, I also had to privilege to pray for his baptism in the Holy Spirit, as we prayed through the 1st Prayer Service. It was definitely a real honour!

Hearing testimonies from the founding members, it was really touching to see how God has prospered the pioneers of the church – where ITE graduates became CEOs and IT managers.

Lillian Cher’s testimony about how Pastor Kong cycled to her house to give her $20 when she was broke, was especially memorable!

It was of great significance, as Lillian was my 1st CGL, and a pleasure to watch how God has prospered her business and moved her into a Multi-Million Dollar house in the east.

The next 20 years promises to be one of greater adventure, and I thank God for bringing me here!

When I came back from Perth, Australia…I wanted to go back down under…but through CHC, I found a greater purpose!

This is the place where I found my calling, my family and my friends.

So apt, considering when National Day is just round the corner…

….This is home truly….Where I know I must be…Where my dreams wait for me!

Best Physics Teacher in the World

Ever heard of a Physics teacher being a Superstar?!?

Well, there is a teacher from MIT, who is known as a Superstar Professor due to the revolutionary methods he uses to impart knowledge to his students.

walter lewin

I remember I hated my Physic/Chemistry teacher in school, as he was always coming to school half drunk and he was a really boring teacher.

From what I watched on Youtube, Walter Levin seems very different – and he even has the Einstein hairstyle to increase his persona! :)

Anyway, great teachers and Leaders such as Ron Clark (This guy was even featured on Oprah), Lee Kuan Yew and Ps. Kong, are really a hard to find…and we should always treasure them!

Enjoy the Video :)

Thomas & Trains

Looking for a cheap way to entertain your kids?

We regularly stand there and watch as we put Nathan into those machines that don’t go anywhere.

 thomas the train

Parkway Parade (A local shopping mall) is one of the best malls with a lot of these rides.

It has this nice Thomas the Train machine, which is one of Nathan’s favourites!

In fact, his love for Thomas has not died. Nathan’s infatuation has continued from the his train sets, to basically any form of transportation associated with trains.

At a recent carnival in church, he was riding the train non-stop, and every ride had to be in the engineer’s seat as well. Mummy says he is “So…BOY!”…as she can not understand his fascination with trains!

Brits got Talent - 10 year old Hollie Steel

The guys from Brits Have Talent have done it again!

Check out this 10 year old Ballerina!

What a great voice!

Need I say more...

Britain's Got Talent - Shaheen Jafargholi

If you liked Susan Doyle in last week's "Brit's got Talent", then stay tuned!

This boy is touted as the next best competitor compared to Susan Doyle and they have one thing in common!

They both have cats!

His name is Shaheen Jafargholi and he is only 12 years old.

I still prefer 6 year old Connie Talbot who was from season 1. Still think nothing can beat her angelic voice!

David Beckham sells phones!

In it's latest bid to sell phones, Motorola has used David Beckham in their latest advertisement!

Hey! If you can't beat the market leader Nokia, call in the England Captain and his chiseled chest to push up sales.

Produced by Ogilvy London, this ad is based on the movie Terminator, and it is definitely something that David Beckham fans will like!

Changed my blackberry recently

Hi guys!

Forgot to update everybody that I have changed my Hp recently: from a Blackberry 9000 (Bold) to a Blackberry 8900 (Curve or Javelin).

blackberry curve 8900 javelin

The Bold was giving me heaps of problems and too unstable for me to rely on…so I changed!

Will blog more about the phone later on…

Anyway, the thing about changing your mobile, which i really hate is: transferring your phonebook.

First, you got to update your phonebook in the computer, and later u have to transfer it to the new phone.

Not exactly easy, when the Blackberry menu is kind of pathetic…they don’t really cover a lot of simple everyday things that u do (I learnt how to use my Blackberry via trial and error!)

But…Phonebooks can really be an asset or a real pain.

Don’t you hate it when you lose a contact, or I used to remember in the early days of mobile history…when changing your hp means manually keying in your phone book again….and u had to send SMSes to the whole world that you changed your mobile.

Anyway, here is a video by Natalie which really “hits the spot”. Don’t u hate it when someone SMSes you, and you don’t know who they are! Watch the video and u will know what i mean!

I am amazed by how this girl can just go on and on….but she is funny!!!

Nadine is ONE

Nadine is ONE!

IMG_2714

What a milestone for our little princess! She can stand unassisted, cruise along the sofa, and of course crawl and climb everywhere and anywhere. Now we’re just waiting for her first step and first word.

DSC_0026

You know, she may be the youngest and smallest in the family, but she sure makes her presence known. We can hear her chuckles and squeals when she is happy, we all know when she wants her food cause she is screaming out loud! And when she is tired, you can hear a loud and clear yawn!

Well, to celebrate her birthday, we had a mini celebration with Gong Gong, Popo, Ee Ee & Family. And we forgot to take a picture with everyone! So here is a reduced version of just our family. (imagine, this was the best shot out of 20!)

DSC_0063

So here’s wishing Nadine a very happy birthday! We love you!

Shokudo - Japanese food (Marche Style)

IMG_2407

We had a small gathering on Sunday, and we tried out this Japanese Restaurant at City Hall.

Located at B1, "Shokudo" is food served Marche Style. Similar to the Swiss restaurant at Vivo City, each customer is given a card, and selects his/her from a huge array of Japanese Food.

IMG_2403 The interior decor of Shokudo is really nice and homely, and I was actually quite overwhelmed with the selection of Japanese food. The guys thought that I would go for the pasta, but I decided to try the Unagi egg rice bowl instead. It was nice!!!

If you are looking for a place with a nice ambience, this place is a good bet! We went there on a sunday night, and there was plenty of room!

For food that is unforgettable - This will not be the place. It was nice, but definitely not a place, where u will go on and on, about the food to your friends :)

collage

A great plus for the restaurant is that they had a big play area for the kids. This place is definitely useful when you have 3 kids!

Prayer Mountain and more...

Coming back from Korea was great, as I really missed my wife and kids. It was also good to see so many of the members at Expo.

Many of u asked for more updates about Korea, so here goes...

If u have been wondering what the prayer cubicles look like, I have got pictures:

prayer grottos edited

IMG_2373

These cubicles are the ones found at Hansei University, and the ones found in Prayer Mountain are very similar. The room is about the same size as a HDB 3 room toilet - so they are not exactly very comfortable. The temperature here was about -3 degrees, and the doors and walls were cold. Can u imagine praying in these cubicles, in the middle of winter?

There was a person actually inside the next cubicle! These people are really ON!!!

The girls have also been asking me, how is the shopping over there.

Well, on our last night, we had some free time.  The shopping there is much better than Taiwan, and at half the price!!!

What's more the fashion is straight from Japan, so I am sure many of u will like it! To add to that - these factory outlets close at 5am!!!

shopping

As you can see, it is like a mini Far East Plaza - but very affordable.

Before I go, here's a video of the sanctuary at prayer mountain. Services are conducted here 4 times/day, and the video shows many colourful blankets on the floor. There are actually people praying underneath, as the sanctuary is really cold.

Largest Church in the World

This is what the largest Church in the world looks like!

Yoida Church

With 850,000 members, this church is the Largest Mega Church in the world.

What's the secret to its growth?

Answer:- PRAYER

The Church Pastors gather every morning at 5am to prayer for an hour.

Currently, the church has just embarked on a 2 week morning prayer program.

This is the scene outside the church at 420am.

People were rushing into the building - not just because it was cold, but because they were rushing for seats.

Inside the auditorium, they have 3 guys on stage who will speak in tongues for 15mins continuously.

The congregation will do likewise! Check out the atmosphere in the church from the video below:

This is definitely a church on FIRE!!!

Thomas the Train

As the kids grow older, the differences between boys and girls become more and more obvious!

Nicole is just more 'girly' and she likes to play with dress-up, makeup and Barbie.

Nathan just loves his Trains! Whenever he see ones, he just goes - "Choo...Choo...Chuga..Chuga...Choo...Choo!!!"

thomas the train

We spent some time alone with him this week, and we brought him to the toy store.

Nathan paced up and down the toy store, and stopped at the Thomas the Train section. He examined every item, that he could get his hands on!

Mummy just couldn't believe his love for trains ... When we left the toy store, she bought him his first "Thomas the Train" toy set.

Here's a video, that expresses Nathan's love for trains...

By the way, do remember to vote for me in the Blogger's Choice Award ... Thank you for your votes in 2008, now this new vote will be for 2009!

Straight No Chaser – A Cappella

Christmas is just round the corner, and everyone is getting into the holiday mood.

We had one of our Christmas CG meetings last night, and we hunted high and low for our Xmas Carols.

At that moment, I remembered about this 10 men accapella (Singing without instruments) group, which I stumbled upon last year. The group is called Straight No Chaser, and they were a Youtube Sensation in 2007, with over 1 million hits!

Here's a video of 1 of their songs:

Cool Right! It all started when they were going to have a class reunion, and they posted some old videos of themselves singing in college. People liked it so much, that it became a hit on Youtube!

This just shows the power of the Internet and mass media!

Straight No Chaser just launched a Christmas Album, and it seems to be the perfect CD for this Christmas. I went to the shops at the Suntec Area and I was disappointed, as they did not carry the CD at all.

I was thinking of ordering a copy from the States. Only thing is that, it will only arrive after Xmas! (Who will be in the mood to listen to carols after Xmas)

I made a call to HMV and they happened to have a few copies. That's great news, as it means that I can save on my postage and shipping! Yaah!

Looks like for the next few days, I will be getting into the Xmas mood even more...as I listen to my new CD :)

Malaysian Fellowship Video on Asia Conference!

Hey Guys! U got to watch this video!

I was searching Youtube for videos about the Asia Conference and guess what I found?!?

A video done by Malaysian Medical Students who are studying in Moscow.

It's really interesting as it gives us a foreign perspective about the conference, and it's really fascinating to find out about our church from someone else's point of view.

If you have got any videos about the conference, let's share it online as well....It's quite fun to relive those moments!

Asia Conference at City Harvest Church

My apologies for not blogging the whole week, as we have been busy with the biggest Conference in City Harvest Church - The Asia Conference.

It has been a really tiring week for us, as we have sessions in the mornings, electives in the afternoons, and sessions again in the night.

The first night was really eventful for us as a family, as the kids were involved in the Parade of ministries. It is basically an event that showcases some of the ministries where our members can utilize their gifts.

The kids were involved, and I was looking forward to see them walk with the floats and the rest of Children's Church.

I stood in front and I managed to catch the parade on my blackberry bold (This explains why the video is grainy as well - This is not one of the strengths of the phone)

Aiya! Should have brought my digital camera to cover the event!

Anyway, what really caught me by surprise was Nathan sleeping through the whole event. He was sleeping in the stroller as the parade marched past!

My friend who was pushing him along, was pointing Nathan out to me as they went past (Looks like my boy can sleep through anything, as there were 8500 people in the hall - cheering and clapping)

The video ends with Nicole - I was shouting out to her, but there were so many people - I don't think she knew where to look!

I think it was quite a milestone for them - as they have a chance to be involved in something of this scale at such a young age. :)

Nicole and Nathan also enjoyed watching the video as I was uploading it. Nic kept on pointing out her friends to me, as they marched past!

Will blog more about the conference in my next post...But meanwhile enjoy the video.
